Michael Vern Johnston

Michael Vern Johnston, 57, of Des Moines, Iowa, died May 13, 2011, at Bright Kavanagh House. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 25, 1953. He was a retired truck driver and at one time owned Jughead’s Tap.

Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Orilla, Iowa.

He is survived by his daughter, Jolynn (Steve) Riedesel; two sons, Michael (Kelsey) Johnston and Ryan (Shelby) Johnston; his brother, Brian (Monica) Johnston; his sister, Barb (Don) Johnston; and three grandchildren, Madison, Makenna, and Kale.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Lester Johnston.

Thank you to all the staff at Bright Kavanagh Hospice for all the love and care you gave to our dad and us during his stay and passing. You are all angels on earth. Memorial contributions may be made to Bright Kavanagh in his memory.

Mike, being a casual person, did not like to dress up. His wish and his family’s wish is that everyone comes comfortable and casual.
