Thelma Boot, age 98, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Mitchellville Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.

Thelma was born December 6, 1912, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Pearl and Blanche (Lewis) Santen. She graduated from Newton High School in 1931, and was united in marriage to Rollin Boot in 1933. The couple owned and operated Boot’s Meat Market, which later became Hutchinson’s Meat Market. Thelma lived in Mason City for 50 years prior to moving to Pleasant Hill in 1996, and she became a member of Simpson United Methodist Church. Thelma was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.

Survivors include her niece, Nancy (James) Shepherd; nephew, David (Sheryl) Bewyer; seven great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great-nieces. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rollin, and sister, Josephine Bewyer.

Memorial contribution may be directed to the Mason City Order of Eastern Star or Iowa Hospice.
