John R. Moody

John R. Moody was born January 13, 1938, to William Clyde and Catherine Edna Moody at 2061 Des Moines Street. Always the Terror of the East side, he won the 1961 “Golden Gloves” and was on the “All Navy Boxing team” from 1956-1960. He married Lois Potee on September 7, 1968, and their daughter Nicholle La’Ree was born on December 6, 1970. John returned to the U.S. Navy in 1974, and the family moved to San Diego, Ca. He retired as a Chief Master at Arms in February, 1992. The family remained in Southern California until his death on April 23, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sisters Pauline and Betty, as well as brother Bill, and nephew Patrick. He leaves behind daughter Nicholle and wife Lois, her brother and sisters, sister-in-law Rosemary Moody and her children Mike and Lisa.

John left his heart in Des Moines and always went back to find it. He loved going back to Iowa and visiting his family and friends. Anyone who knew John knew that his friends were his family and this obituary would not be reflective of John’s life if we did not acknowledge his extended family – the band of brothers he grew up with and loved so much.
