Service Details
Esmeralda Davis, age 81, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at her home in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2011, under the direction of The Reverend Art Ousley. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Lyon Street.
Born August 2, 1929, Esmeralda Davis was the daughter of Robert and Juanita (Brown) Burke. Esmeralda grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, where she attended school. She retired as a Secretary of Probation and later worked as a Teacher’s Associate.
Esmeralda was a member of Rose Temple #33 and Bethel AME Church. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting miniature liquor bottles, but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Wesley Davis; sons, Tyrone Anderson, Sr., and Russell Bailey; grandsons, Tyrone Anderson, Jr., Kory Anderson, and Anthony Clark. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Edgar Burke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Juanita Burke; brother, Robert Burke Jr.; and a sister, Jacqueline Hackney.

To the family of Mrs. Davis, it was a privilege to know your mom, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend. She enjoyed life to the fullest, dressing to the max, shopping till she dropped and supporting her Rose Temple Sisters. Mrs. D. DEMANDED respect, but was always willing to be a sounding board and give you a loving but NO NONSENSE answer.
My husband and I enjoyed watching her and her brother dance together at many of the Elks Christmas Parties.
Her spirit will remain undying; Blessings and Peace to you all as you celebrate the life of Mrs. D.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Esmerelda, I miss her so much. She always brought style into my class room always matching from head to toe. She was so caring with all of her students and knew how to brighten the day. She talked about her family all the time and how proud she was of each of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

So sorry for your loss. I lived next to her for the past thirteen years. Didn't really get to know her well until last fall. We talked about school, and different things briefly. She was a person who minded her own business, and I was the same way, but she started to speak and talk to me, and I am so sorry that I didn't get to know her better before she passed. My sincere condolences to her son and family, and just know that if there is anything I can do to make this a little easier for the family, please don't hesitate to knock on my door.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all, who was part of this caring and giving woman's life! She was such a good person, who ALWAYS looked out for others! She NEVER liked to see anyone go without, so, she contributed to whatever the cause. She was the sharpest dressed lady walking around East High School, and anywhere else, as a matter of fact! I already miss her and the good times that we had working together. She will remain in my heart FOREVER! I LOVE YOU ESMERALDA DAVIS, MAY YOU ALWAYS REST IN PEACE!
