Hubert C. Ulm

Hubert C. Ulm, 93, passed away May 4, 2011, at University Park Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Hubert was born August 22, 1917, in Humeston, Iowa, to William and LulaBelle Ulm. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during WWII. Hubert was a truck driver for 40 years until his retirement in 1977 from Teamsters Local 147. He also owned a resort in Minnesota. Hubert lived most of his life in Des Moines with the exception of 25 years he spent in Mesa, AZ, returning to Iowa in 2008. He loved ballroom dancing and riding motorcycles, both of which he continued doing in to his late 80’s.

Hubert is survived by his daughter, Judy Leo; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, four brothers, and his daughter, Margaret Perry.
