Fern Dickey

Fern Dickey, 77, passed away May 1, 2011, at Taylor House, surrounded by her loving family.

Fern was born June 10, 1933, in Altoona, IA, to Roy and Mabel Hick. She graduated from Altoona High School where she lettered in band, playing the C Melody Saxophone, and earned awards for her attendance. Over the past 40 years she had worked at Western Tool, Des Moines General Hospital, and most recently at the Walmart on SE 14th. Her happiness came from working, dancing and caring for her family. Fern was a member of Rising Sun Church of Christ.

Fern is survived by her children from her union with Homer Dickey: Daniel (Amy) Dickey, Donald (Penny) Dickey, Evelyn (Bob) Howard, and Linda (Jim) Seiberling; grandchildren, Melissa, Michael (Hannah), Thaddeus, Elizabeth, Abigail, David, Laura, Jeremy, Katie, Jonathan, Eric, and Julianne (David); great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kolton, Arion, Elijah, Tristan, and Meleinna; brothers, Norman and Dale Hick; close friend, Roy Brown; and a host of other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Goldie, Pauline, Lillian and Fonnie; brothers, Albert, Gordon and Richard; and her grandson, Joshua.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Rising Sun Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
