Helen L. Long

Helen Louise Long, 80, was born September 15, 1930, the daughter of Shell and Florence “Irene” (Williams) Helm. She passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Sunny View Care Center.

Helen was a loving sister, who spent her life caring for her family; she was a friend to everyone she met; she loved to talk and always wore a smile. She especially loved selling sweet corn at the corner stand on east 33rd Street.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Bondurant Cemetery.

Helen is survived by her siblings, Ralph (Marilyn) Helm, Leona (Dean) Towne, Frank (Carol) Helm, Harvey (Peggy) Helm, Joe (Karen) Helm, Lester (Gail) Helm, Roberta (Lynn) Weber, Katherine (Lyle) Rice and Shelleena (Robert) McConnell and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shell and Florence Helm; loving husband, Robert D. Long; brother, Richard Helm; sisters, Dorothy Bensley and Florence Melton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Hospice of Johnston or Ronald McDonald House, in loving memory of Helen.
