Bonnie L. McGilvrey

Bonnie L. McGilvrey, 80, passed away April 26, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice.

Bonnie was born January 29, 1931, in Des Moines to Herman and Grace Schone. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and graduated from North High School. Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star Auburn Chapter and First Federated Church. Prior to joining First Federated, she was a member of Highland Park Christian Church and their Lunch Bunch group. Bonnie was very detail oriented and loved to paint.

Bonnie is survived by her step-son, Frederick (Sharon) McGilvrey; daughter-in-law, Carol McGilvrey; grandson, Jeffrey McGilvrey; and what she referred to as her “adopted family”, Keith and Ripple VanEngen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Corwin Stringfellow; step-son, Charles McGilvrey; and her sister, Patricia Boswell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Federated Church or Taylor House Hospice.

The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at Taylor House Hospice for the wonderful care, compassion and kindness extended to Bonnie.
