Joseph Jackovich, 94, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Wesley Acres Retirement Community, surrounded by his family. He was born December 12, 1916, to Albert and Amelia (Radosovich) Jackovich in Scandia, Iowa.

Joseph grew up in Madrid and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man. He retired from the US Post Office after 30 years of service, and most recently worked at United Federal Savings. Joseph always enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and reading the newspaper every day. Later in life, he began to read western novels.

Joseph is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Dorothy; children, Marianne (Bob) Early and Michael (Claudia) Jackovich; grandchildren, Patrick Early, Kevin (Heidi) Early, Michelle (Adam) Fetters, and Katie (Brad) Crookshank; great-grandchildren, Cora, Sean, Meagan, and Payton; sisters, Velma Olsen; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Johnny, Mike, and Larry Jackovich; and sister, Anne Jackovich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will occur 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Madrid. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Acres Retirement Community or All Saints Catholic Church in loving memory of Joseph.
