Service Details

Sandra Fredericksen, age 69, was born November 30, 1941, in Dewey, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Hartley) Spegal. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 412 Euclid Avenue, with burial to follow at the Jefferson Cemetery in Menlo, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. to 11a.m., at the church, prior to the service. During the service, musical selections that will be played are "The Old Rugged Cross," "Angels Among Us," "If I Should Fall Behind," and "There Will Come A Day." Those serving as pallbearers are Derek Fredericksen, Daryl Fredericksen, Karin Fredericksen, Danny Fredericksen, Jeremy Van Arkel and Nicholas Jacoby.

Sandra was united in marriage to Arthur Fredricksen on March 29, 1958, in Adel, Iowa. The couple made their home in Des Moines where they raised nine children. Sandra enjoyed making crafts at the Eastside Senior Center, watching movies, and listening to country and gospel music. She was an avid Iowa State Fair-goer and loved to read about love and romance. Sandra especially loved spending time with her family and two dogs, Dakota and Bambi. Most of Sandy’s time was spent being the world’s best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include, her husband of 53 years, Arthur Fredericksen; children, Cynthia Fredericksen, Lisa (Patrick) Tyler, Cheryl (Shiah Yeau) Chen, Daryl (Darla) Fredericksen, Laurie (Martin) Cummings, Darin Fredericksen, Derek (April) Fredericksen and Danny Fredericksen; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristen, Karin, and 22 additional; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Mike (Mildred) Spegal; and her dogs, Dakota and Bambi.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Arthur Jr; grandson, Jacob Tyler; sister, Joyce Beard; and dog, Bunni.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Sandra.
