Service Details
John Lakers, 54, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Bright Kavanagh House. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and the service at 6:30 p.m.
John was born on November 20, 1956. He graduated from Dowling High School and was a cab driver for over 20 years. He was a loving father and enjoyed fishing, bowling and his grandbabies. John was a proud and active member of Narcotics Anonymous. He was also an elder at New Hope Open Bible Church and had completed the discipleship and leadership classes through the Institute of Theology of Extension Bible College. He loved God, worship, song and dance, though never claimed to be good.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Jan; children, Heather (David) Jackson, Cory, Megan and Stacey Lakers; mother, Pat Lakers; siblings, Jamie (Toni) Lakers, Linda Buck and Debbie Lakers. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lakers.

John you will be greatly missed, you kind words, your caring ways and your smile. I had the blessing of being in recovery with you and I know you are looking down and smiling still.

I was so shocked by John's illness and passing. I think of John 14:2-3 at these times. Such a promise that God gives us. I know that he is walking with our Lord. My prayers and thoughts go out to you Jan and family. God Bless and keep you during the days ahead.

My sympathies and prayers to John's family. I have fond memories of John from 1st grade on. We reconnected through the Dowling Class 1975 reunion. He was a good sole and will be missed. God's blessings to all of you. You and John are in our prayers.

I loved John. He was a simple, kind, thoughtful, giving and loving man. He filled in so many times when others would not step up...he was gracious and giving of his time and always had a kind word for all people. God, he loved his family! Heather and the grandbaby, Cory and his growing problems...he loved his brother and sisters and spoke wonderfully of especially his brother. John's death was a horrible shock to me and I will always miss his smile. Rest easy with the angels and Saints John, you so deserve to be with them. I loved you....

You know there was always a sibling rivalry.We competed at almost eveything.We disagreed and we were different.You a republican me a democrat.You a Cardinals fan me I love the Cubs.You worked hard I love leisure.But when all is said and done We always Loved each other as Brothers.Whose winning?Who won?

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I went to Dowling with John, but haven't seen him in a while because I don't live in the US. Based on his strong faith, he picked a fitting time to leave this life. The Lakers family is in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace.

Our sincerest condolences go out to the entire family. I will not be able to attend the services, but will be there in spirit and prayer.
I feel especially sorrowful with it being only a few months ago his father passed away.
I also feel lucky to have had John as a cousin. Lots of great memories growing up and spending holidays at Grandmas house.
I know how much he loved his wife and kids. I can't imagine how difficult a tome this must be for his family.

You finished the race with dignity. Your love and compassion for people will travel down your family lines with your children and grandchildren very proud of you. I loved you John Lakers! May we always remember your great strenghths as we recall your weaknesses that eventually lead you to Christ.
