Anthony Joseph De Angelis was born August 25, 1927, in Des Moines, IA, one of four children born to Sadie Renda and Dominic De Angelis. He passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011. He fought a long and difficult battle against Diffuse Lewy Body Disease with Dementia.

Tony was raised on the south side of Des Moines in “Little Italy.” He attended St. Anthony’s grade school, and graduated from Dowling High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served in WW II. He was married April 12, 1953, to Loretta Jean Gray. To this union six children were born, Antoniette (Toni Lea), Dominic (Dom), Rebecca "Becky," Charles "Chuck," Lucia "Luchie," and Catherine "Catie."

Tony followed in his father’s footsteps, operating and owning The Savory Dress Club, a dry cleaning and tailoring business, next to the Savory Hotel in downtown Des Moines. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Des Moines.

Anthony is survived by five children, Toni Lea Tate, Rebecca Chandler (Keith), Charles De Angelis (Terri Walker), Lucia De Angelis (Ben Leal), Catie DeAngelis; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Sposeto (Micky); brother, Vincent DeAngelis (Toni Marasco) and brother-in-law, Hank Graziano. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his son, Dominic; and his grandson, Kevin De Angelis; his sister, Catherine “Bootie” Graziano.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 12 noon before the service. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's or the ALS Foundation.
