Ben Dyer, 32, passed unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Services will be on Monday, April 18, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Van Meter United Methodist Church, 100 Hazel Street in Van Meter.
Ben was born on December 3, 1978, in Des Moines to Dennis and Melody (Toulouse) Dyer. He attended Valley High School and has been a self-employed painter since he was 17. He was a partner in the family business, Fresh Coat Painting. Ben was a hard-worker and on a mission to paint the world, one apartment at a time. He was fun, silly, filled with giggles and had a great laugh. He cherished his dog, Deuce, and his 1980 Z28 Camaro. He and his dad had just finished restoring the car and were planning to enter it in a car show. He also enjoyed sports and was a Chicago Bears fan.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Melody Laake and Dennis Dyer; brother, Jay; sister, Christmas; nephew, Keenan Johnson; best friends, Ryan Chrisinger and Jeff Daniels; and his dog, Deuce. He is survived by his 1980 Z28 Camaro. Ben was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Toulouse; and his beloved dog, Chevy.

I loved Ben. We knew each other for quiet a long time. When we were together we had the best time. We laughed about stupid things and I just loved being with him. When I was at this house one cold winter day he asked me to let Deuce out to go to the bathroom. I took him to the back, there was 3 feet of snow outside. But Ben loved that dog so much that he had shoveled a huge path and a big circle so deuce could still play outside. Ben was one of the greatest men I have ever met. My heart is broken. My condolences to the family. It's a terrible loss for everyone.

We just heard about Ben. We lived next door to Ben for over 8 years until we were transferred to Columbus, OH this last July. Ben was always friendly as we would often waive and/or chat as we let our dogs out. He spent a lot of time training Duece. We remember his old dog too! Ben even helped us with some painting at our house. Our most recent memory of Ben was last summer when we were roofing our house. I fell off the back deck and sprained my ankle pretty badly. Ben helped me to the car and offerred a wrap for my ankle. He was always so nice to share his backyard so our kids could play ball. He was a good neighbor.
We apologize that we are getting this news so late. Pleas know your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I just learned about this last night after visiting with Christmas. I'm so very sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to your family. Miss all of you and was really sadded when hearing this news. Ben is a wonderful person and he's in God's hands now watching over all of you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your family as you mourn the loss of Ben.

I grew up with Ben from jr.high to high school. I too am a painter, we fished together, played pool, and snuk out together when we were kids. I just learned of his death today. I have Been wondering how to contact him for quite some time. Please have his brother jason contact me at 515 689-5085 I loved Jason like a brother. please except my deepest condolences.
He will be deeply missed.

It is still difficult to fully accept the fact that Ben is gone. It seems unnatural to lose someone so young. While the time seems early to us, I believe that he was called home when the Lord decided He wanted him there.
My thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Dennis and the rest of the family. Special prayers for you all tomorrow as you celebrate Ben's life.

I never knew Ben personally, and only met him through the stories that I was told by Ryan Chrisinger's mother. It still doesn't seem real to me, he was so young. I wish the whole family peace and comfort as you grieve the loss of such a fun loving young man. Emma

I always enjoyed seeing Ben's sweet face in the Sun Prairie Apt. office where I work. He was such a nice guy, so easy to talk to and I loved hearing about his travels and his dog, Deuce. To all of his family and friends, I am truly sorry for your loss. I will miss Ben so much too.

My heart is saddened by the unexpected passing of Ben. It's hard to find any words that might comfort you at a time like this. Please know that he's in the arms of Jesus and is being welcomed by many wonderful family members who have gone on before us.
