Phyllis Mitchell

Phyllis J. Mitchell, 77, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Mercy Hospital. She was born September 9, 1933, to Harry and Rachel Jones in Knoxville, Iowa.

Phyllis graduated from Knoxville High School, and worked as an executive secretary at the former Banker’s Life Insurance Company. She married W.R. “Dick” Mitchell and raised her two children. Phyllis was a 50-year member of the Ankeny United Methodist Church.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 57 years; children, Bill (Trudy) Mitchell and Sarah (Peter) Fagen; grandchildren, Hilary and Anna Mitchell, Andrew Fagen, Bradley (Amy M.) and Amy H. White and; sisters, Eleanor (Wayne) Ostendorf and Mary (Anthony) Kuiper; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Ronald, and Russell Jones; and sister, Donna Beebout.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
