Arthur Strahl

Art Strahl, 84, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines, Thursday, April 14, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 15, 10:30 a.m., at Christ the King Church in Des Moines. Arthur was born on June 25, 1926, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and raised in the Creston, Iowa, area. Arthur was a Navy veteran of World War II and served as a submarine torpedo man.

Art retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Company on March 1, 1986, where he worked for 34 years. Art served the local 310 United Rubber Workers Union for the betterment of organized labor while serving as Vice President, Divisional Chairman and Executive Board Member for 34 years.

On July 20, 1946, Arthur married Genevieve Porowski. The couple was married for 65 years and raised their family in the Des Moines area, where they resided for the past 59 years. Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; brother, Harry Strahl of Redmond, OR; cousin, Annie Bryant of Creston, IA; son Arthur Strahl, Jr. of Clive, and three daughters, Patricia Reasoner of Des Moines, Valarie Bergstrom of Manistee, MI, and Theresa Durkin of Monroe, MI. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Steven Strahl, Catherine Strahl, Jeffrey Strahl, Robert Reasoner, Thomas Reasoner, Joshua Coester, Christina Rasmussen, and David Rasmussen, and eleven great-grandchildren.
