Susie Walters

Susie Ardena Walters, 74, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, surrounded by her family at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2007.
Susie was born on March 16, 1933, in Palmersville, Tennessee. She has been a resident of Des Moines since approximately 1959. Susie served in the United States Army as a WAC. She worked for the Des Moines Public Schools, Brenton Bank, and McDonalds. She retired from Amerus Bank and Kmart. Up until she fell ill, she worked for Target at Southridge for a number of years and whom she considered her second family. Susie enjoyed reading, gardening, and serving as a Boy Scout den leader for 20 years.
Susie is survived by her loving life partner, Donald Stout; daughters Terrie (Bob) Webb of Johnston, Iowa, and Kimberly (Kevin) Broders of Clive, Iowa; sons Patrick (Shirley) Walters of Flagler, Colorado, and Michael (Dana) Walters of Des Moines, Iowa; children in heart, Greg Stout, Rebecca Stout, and Barry Braack all of Des Moines, Iowa; 16 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Grandchildren in the heart; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald L. Walters; and great-grandson, Cameron Webb.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be directed to the Target House (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital).
