Carl Lami, 66, passed away April 9, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a long battle with cancer.
He will be remembered always by his wife, Murielene (Mert) Lami; his children, Tom (Sherry) Kirkman, Lenor (Joe) Carter, Bob Kirkman, Matt (Amy) Lami, and Shannan (Mike) Lewis; sister, Mary Somsky; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and lots of friends. Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Sayles; sisters, Carolyn Delp and Josephine Lami; and his mother and father, John and Anita Lami.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Assumption Catholic Church, 1906 Sycamore, Granger, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family, in loving memory of Carl.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Carl was an amazing man and will be truly missed. Carl and I had many great nights working at Terrace Hill and the State Capitol complex. Carl always made things fun. My wife and I will never forget the Capitol Police Christmas parties he hosted and the amazing food Carl and Mert prepared. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carls family and friends.

We are so sorry for your loss. Carl was a good man. I remember spending the night with Shannan and listening to his stories. Tay again if you need anything, a break to grieve w/o the kids around, a shoulder to cry on, anything. I'm here!

Please accept my condolences on the loss of Carl. He was also my training officer for my first nights fresh out of the academy. After 22 years I still remember those first nights as a brand new officer and working under Carl's direction. I was also assigned in eastern Iowa for several years and occasionally would see Carl when he would stop in to see us at dinner as he was traveling through the area. Carl was a great guy. He will be missed.

To the Carl Lami family,
We will miss Carl's smiling face and his sense of humor. I recall many midnights
at Terrace Hill and his insight to many of life's issues. He always had a way of
of helping the younger officers understand their roles. He was supportive and
always helped others by guiding with a genuine sense of loyalty.

My deepest sympathy to Carl's whole family. I have many fond memories of growing up with Carl in Granger. Carl and I learned to be alter boys together, and served at a lot of masses for Fr. Gorman. He used to help me deliver papers out at the Homesteads as long as I would buy him a candy bar and pop at Geneser's Implement. So many memories of school at Assumption. I remember Carl was very independent. He would always do things his way and not follow the crowd. Dinner at the Lami's was a real treat. I had a hard time understanding how Mrs. Lami could make dandilion greens taste so good. I regret that Carl and I didn't get together again until he was sick. The time we did spend together these last couple of years was special. We talked a lot about the good times, family, classmates,teachers and our lives. He was a special friend, and I will think of him often.

I am truely sorry about your loss. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this hard time. I have many great memories of Carl while working at the Capital. He was stationed at the gate security when I began my career with the Iowa State Patrol. I enjoyed visiting with him to hear the stories of the past.

We are sorry to hear about your loss. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Amy and I both have a lot of great memories of Carl. He was my first training officer, when I was hired as a Peace Officer Candidate. We worked a bunch of midnight shifts together and he always made it fun. He was a really good guy and we will miss seeing him at the Capitol.
