Gracia Robbins

Gracia Mary (Zornes) Robbins was born on February 22, 1927, in Des Moines to Dewey Plummer and Gracia Susan (Morgan) Zornes. She died on April 4, 2011, at University Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Gracia graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945. She met her first husband, Ronald Speer during WWII years. They corresponded while Ronald was serving in the U.S. Navy and were married upon his return. To this union, daughter Cathy Ruth was born. The family moved to California where son Michael Allen was born. They divorced shortly after 25 years. Gracia returned to Des Moines to help care for her ailing mother. After her mother’s death, she was married to Larry Webb, and later to Harry Robbins. She was widowed in both marriages.

Gracia retired from the Des Moines Public School District in 1989, where she worked as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Business Sorority.

Gracia is survived by her sisters, Ruth Johnson and Sheila Sue Bell; daughter, Cathy Gilbert; son Michael Speer; granddaughters, Michelle Reers, Sasha Andrews and Bailey Speer; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brenton, Alaura and Maureen.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Resthaven Cemetery.
