Galen Lee Thompson, 62 passed away at home March 31, 2011, with his three favorite girls by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug 9, 1948, to Merrill and Doris Thompson. He married his high school sweetheart Jane in 1968, and together they raised two loving daughters. Galen proudly served his country in the Army during Vietnam. He retired from John Deere Des Moines works in 2003, after 30 years of service.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by the love of his life of 42 years, Jane; daughters, Shelly Goff (Dave) of Des Moines and Jennifer Nicholson (Eric) of Bondurant; two brothers, Stan (Sharon) and George (Joy) both of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jessica, Mitchell, Emily and Cole; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a wonderful network of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for their direction at a later date.

i remember as a kid playin with ric n how i always wanted to put on his army helmet he got from galen from nam not really knowing what vietnam was(im not that old jenni)he was a great man and i enjoyed him n his storys, he was a great freind to my family but a very special freind to my dad my heart n prayers are with you all as someone who has dealt with chronic pain for 11 yrs now i wanted to say his pain is gone and as bad as that may sound, i no he is glad that the pain is finally gone may god be with you all i love ya davey
