Service Details

Mayabelle L. Floyd passed away April 4, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a 6:30 p.m. Rebekah service at the funeral home.
Mayabelle was the daughter of William Herbert and Bessie (Frederick) Black of Webster City, Iowa. She was part of the La Tona Troupe, a family comedy and acrobatic act. They performed all over the country and were very famous. Mayabelle married Elmer June Floyd on August 2, 1937. They lived in West Des Moines for many years. They traveled the world over and enjoyed every minute of it. Mayabelle was a member of Hapac Daughter of Mokanna and Sweet Brier Rebekah No. 188.
Mayabelle is survived by her sister, Mildred (Bob) Pringle; brother, Harvey (Mary) Black; and long time friends, Deane & Dolores Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, E. J. Floyd; three sisters, Marcellia Winkley, Marjorie Eide and Marian Newcomb; two brothers, Francis Black and Richard Black; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Mayabelle’s name.
