Service Details
Karen Gillispie, 69, of Des Moines, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Taylor Hospice house. A Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Indianola Heights Christian Church, 3139 SE 8th Street in Des Moines. All are welcome following the service for a time of food and fellowship at the church.
Karen was born on October 18, 1941, to the late Bill and Aldora Gillispie. Following graduation from Stuart, Nebraska, in 1959, she attended the University of Nebraska. She retired from Allied Insurance Company in 1999 after many years of dedication. During retirement she spent her time watching her two grandsons. She spent six years as owner/operator of Gillispie Notary Services as a Certified Signing Agent, until her sister Judith Solem came to live with her, at which time she became a full-time caregiver until Judith passed away January 19, 2010.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Amber (Joseph) Skalicky of Madrid, IA; grandsons, Avery Cade, Harrison Cade; granddaughters, Josaphina Skalicky, Bethanie Skalicky, Janelle Skalicky; sister, Beverly (Linda) Pisarik of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Brian (Joan) Solem of Longmont, Colorado; great-nephew, Jackson; great-niece, Julia; nephew, Bart (Amy) Pisarik of Marion; great-nephew Sean; great-niece, Megan
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Judith.

Goodbye for now dear Karen. I will never forget your kind and compassionate nature. I also will never forget the countless hours we spent together late into the night working on the annual statement for Allied insurance. You always seemed to make it fun.

Dear Bev, Bart and Families,
We never know when our time will come, but it is always too soon. I know you all have wonderful memories of times spent with Karen over the years. Treasure these memories and each other. You are all in my thoughts and in my heart.
These are not my words, but for some reason they bring my peace. I hope they do the same for you...
Stay in the sunshine,
dream of lakes and trails,
