Geneva Huston

Geneva Margaret Jenks Huston was born August 18, 1918, to Daisy Jack-Jenks and Ross Charles Jenks. She died March 21, 2011, at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines.

Geneva graduated from Van Horne High School in 1936, attended Drake University, and married Robert B. Huston on June 8, 1940. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children graduated from college and were married. Geneva then went to work for Prairie Queen Foods & Decker’s Mobile Catering as a bookkeeper from 1967 until her retirement in 1980. She loved taking care of her family, playing games with the children and grandchildren, especially cards and board games and attending all of their activities. Geneva also enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, church activities, walking, biking, horseback riding and going on picnics.

Geneva is survived by her children, Ross Huston of Colorado and Roberta Huston Breeding of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Wendy (Jim) Robinson of Colorado, Spring Huston of Colorado, Barbara (Pat) Roth of Florida and Brian (Becky) Breeding of Minnesota; eight great-grandchildren, Rebecca Robinson, Sarah Robinson, Elizabeth Robinson, Cade Breeding, Paige Breeding, Logan Breeding, Samantha Roth and Eddie Roth; and her three nephews, Bernard Bianco, Tom Bianco and Bill Bianco. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; daughter-in-law, Candace Huston; and her brother, Loren T. Jenks.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Avenue S, followed by burial at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW.
