Bounmy L. Sayavongchanh, 40, passed away March 19, 2011, near the northern Okinawa city of Nago, following a motorcycle accident.

Bounmy was born November 8, 1970, in Vientiane, Laos. He immigrated with his family in the early 1980’s to Des Moines. Bounmy graduated from Hoover High School in 1990, then joined the U.S. Air Force immediately, where he served for more than 20 years. Bounmy was currently serving at the Kadena Air Base, Japan, as a Technical Sergeant of the 18th Component Maintenance Squadron. Bounmy enjoyed his career in the Air Force, but was looking forward to retiring in 2015, when he would be able to spend more time with his two sons.

Bounmy was an excellent mechanic and spent many hours helping family and friends with their auto repairs when home for visits. He also enjoyed video gaming, riding his motorcycle and spending time with family and friends.

Bounmy is survived by his sons Dean and Danny Sayavongchanh, parents Ouy and Alom Sayavongchanh; siblings, Phensy (Tony) Pane, Chanthaboun Sayavongchanh, Lamphoune Sayavongchanh, and Vanpheng Sayavongchanh.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. A Military Honor Guard Burial will be held on Thursday, March 31, at 9:00 a.m., at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, for family and friends.
