James Longden

James Longden, 100, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Taylor Hospice House. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Chapel Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Jim was born March 21, 1911, in Des Moines, to Margerite and James Longden. He worked for Armstrong Tire as an instrument repairman. He was nick named “Master Fix It” due to his vast knowledge of fixing and repairing almost anything.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, and brother and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, LaDonna (Ed) Powers; his son, Gordon (Marlene) Longden; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
