Jean (Wickesberg) Sommers, 74, of West Des Moines, passed away March 17, 2011.
Jean was born in Appleton, WI to parents Emma & Herbert Wickesberg. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and later received a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Drake. Pursuing her lifelong dedication to education Jean taught Home Economics, tutored with Children and Families of Iowa, and was a substitute teacher.
Jean continued to be a teacher to her grandchildren; always excited to read a book, write a story or sew a blanket for them. She is survived by children, Deb (Bruce) Berendts, Brad (Sherri) Sommers, Kathy (David) Marx; grandchildren, Mallory, Laura, Ben, Carissa and Dalton.
