Melvin (Stub) Perry Corson formerly of Austin passed away on March 15, 2011 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa.

He was born November 13, 1921, in Austin to George and Inga Corson. He served in the US Army with the 9th Infantry Division from June 23, 1942, to September 28, 1945, earning 9 battle stars. After returning from WW II he married Helen Ross on October 14, 1945. Shortly after their marriage he went to work for Hormel and was employed there for 37 years. Melvin built their home in Austin in 1952 and lived there until 2009. They had two children, Joanne and Pam.

Melvin’s greatest joy in life was his family. He liked nothing better than being with them. His hobby was woodworking. All of his family have furniture that he has made over the years. Melvin is a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He is a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Helen formerly of Austin; two daughters, Joanne Corson Hallman, Minnetonka, Pam Larson and her husband Darwin Larson, Norwalk, IA; his 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Hallman, Eric (Sarah) Hallman, Elizabeth (Nate) Riordan, Katherine Larson, Rebecca (Andy) Willson; his 6 great grandchildren, Cody, Casey, Grant, Benett, Teagan and Lyla. He is also survived by one sister, Shirley Arett; one brother-in-law, Ronald (Bertha) Ross and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ross and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lester and Kenneth and one sister, Mildred Thorson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 p.m., at Norwalk Christian Church, Norwalk, IA, and Major Marlys Anderson from the Salvation Army in Austin will officiate. Cards can be sent to Helen Corson at 813 High Road #121, Norwalk, IA 50211.
