Robert Gene Sawin, 76, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines from congestive heart failure. He was born October 2, 193,4 in Eldora, Iowa, to Harold and Violet Sawin.
Robert lived in Oklahoma for a number of years and then returned to Des Moines. He was formerly a police officer for the Sheriff’s Department and retired from Hobart Food Service. Robert was a lifetime member of the VFW and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, guns, country music, and dancing.
Robert is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lee; children, Denny, Desi, Debra, and Deanna from his first marriage; step-children; Tony, LaDonna, Kevin, Victoria, and Billy; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nephew, Jeff Davis; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kathy.
A memorial visitation will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at VFW Post 9127, 4029 Urbandale Avenue, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Robert.

I was so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. He was such a special man and had so much influence on my being the person I am today. He will be truly missed and I hope your wonderful memories will help carry you through this time of sorrow. Love to you all!
