Elizabeth (Lafferty) Naughton Hunt, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 5, 2011, at The Shores of Pleasant Hill.

Elizabeth “Betty” was born September 22, 1931, in Newton, Iowa. She received her Master’s degree from Drake University in Music Education, and was a cellist with the Des Moines Symphony for over 53 years. Over the years, Betty performed with various artists such as The Moody Blues, Glen Campbell, Jack Benny and Henry Mancini. She retired from the West Des Moines Public Schools, where she taught stringed instruments, and she also gave private lessons for many years. Betty helped to foster generations of students to love and appreciate music. She was a member of Heartland Christian Fellowship, Sigma Alpha Iota and Chi Omega and served on the Des Moines Symphony Board. First and foremost, Betty lived her life to serve Jesus Christ and spread His Word.

Betty is survived by her children, John R. Naughton of West Des Moines, Iowa, Steve (Carmen Lizette) Naughton of Orlando, Florida, Joann (Doug) Workman of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Kathy (Rick) Wozniak of Orlando, Florida and Mary (Steve) Sieloff of Indianola, Iowa; grandchildren, Drew and Abby Workman of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Ben and Josh Wozniak of Orlando, Florida and Tyler and Nathan Sieloff of Indianola, Iowa; brother, John (Beulah) Lafferty of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; 12 nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Carmen Lopez Rosario. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sara (Beach) Lafferty of Newton, Iowa; first husband, John S. Naughton; and second husband, Kenneth Hunt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at Altoona United Methodist Church, 605 5th Avenue SW, followed by burial at Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
