Nova Findley
March 02, 2011
Nova E. (Macklin) Findley, 90, died at her home in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, of pulmonary fibrosis. Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. Burial services will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Additionally, on Sunday, March 6, 2011, the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nova was born on September 4, 1920, in Nemaha, Iowa, to Charles and Sylva (Taylor) Macklin. The family moved to rural Adel, Iowa, where Nova attended Redfield Consolidated High School. Nova graduated in 1938. Thereafter, on April 2, 1942, Nova married Denver M. Findley at her parent’s home. Three children were born of the marriage, namely, Dixie, Gayle, and Jack. Nova was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Nova was also a hard working, energetic woman who excelled at all she did in life. Her early married life was spent working side-by-side with Denver on the farm, doing her part as a farm wife. Nova also worked for a period of time at Look Magazine. Thereafter, she owned and operated the Hartford Café for twelve years. The Café was a wonderful place where Nova took great pride in her work and earned herself the reputation as a fabulous cook. In conjunction with her work at the Café, Nova contributed an integral part to the success of the business owned and operated by her husband Denver and their son, Jack. Nova’s passion, however, was sewing. She could make something beautiful out of only a few scraps of material. Nova and Denver further enjoyed adventuring in their motor home for all types of excursions.
Nova will be greatly missed by those that survive her, which include: her son, Jack Findley (Glenda Warder) of Des Moines; her daughters, Gayle Davis of Altoona, and Dixie (Dennis) Simpson of Dexter; eight grandchildren; Stacy Albee, Dana (Brad) Vry, Tony Davis, Scott (Shannon) Simpson, Nic (Lisa) Simpson; Tonya Davis, Nicole Findley and Cody Findley; and her eleven great-grandchildren; Geo Stewart, Chris Vry, Curtis Vry, David Simpson, Elaine Meyers, Jailey Simpson, Brandon Davis, Beverly McKenna, Natalie Simpson, Denver Davis and Delaney Simpson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in law Bernice Finley of Des Moines, Marjorie Wonderlin of Winterset, Gene (Marsella) Findley of Florida, Robert (Mary) Findley of California, Judith Findley of California, and Joe (Nikki) Findley of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. Nova was preceded in death by her husband, Denver (1998), granddaughter, Susan K. Albee (2007), parents and sisters, Cleda Merical, Ila Miller, Ardis Miller, and her brothers Derwood Macklin and Renz Macklin.

Dear God. On this day, You've reminded us that You are in control of things that happened in our lives. I could only pray to You for Your strength and guidance. I ask for Your shoulder of comfort to be upon Grandma Nova, she has returned to you Lord. I ask for Your forgiveness upon her sins and that You'll bless her soul so that she could rest in peace for eternity. Please give strength to Gayle, Dixie, and Jack during this difficult time as they mourn their loss of their beloved Mother. May Your guardian angel watch over Grandma Nova and the rest of the families as they travel on the road to bid farewell to one of the dearest I have ever known! In Jesus name, Amen." I Love You Nova! Please tell Denver and Susan I Miss and Love them!! XXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOO
