Doris Hart

Doris Vivian Hart passed to a better life on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Genesis Senior Living Center.

Doris was born near Monroe, Iowa, December 8, 1915, the sixth of eight children of Ben Robert and Huldah (Ferrell) Poortinga.

She graduated from Bondurant High School in 1931. In 1936, she married the one “love of her life”, Alva Hart. To this union, which lasted 51 years, was born one son, Larry. She spent the last ten of those years caring for her husband, who was an Alzheimer’s Disease patient.

She enjoyed working in her yard, flower beds, and a small garden until she was well past 90 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters: Sarah, Ina, Robert, Mabel, Evelyne, John, and Norman.

Doris is survived by her son, Larry; grandsons, Roger, Curtis and Craig and great grandchildren, Jonathan, Patrick, Jessica, Steven and Brian.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Masonic Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday.
