February 25, 2011
Mike Lujan, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 25th, at the Kavanagh House.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, Monday, February 28th, 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, March 1st, 11 a.m., at Grace Church, 4200 E. 25th Street, Des Moines.
Mike was born June 1, 1933, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Leonard and Isabel (Baron) Lujan. He was raised in Oelwein, Iowa. He married Betty Lou Sewell in 1954. After service in the U.S. Army, he and Betty Lou moved to Des Moines where they raised their four children. Mike was employed by Western Electric/AT&T, where he retired after 42 years of faithful service. He loved fishing, sports, and breakfast with the “guys”. Most of all, he loved spending time with Betty Lou. Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage, family vacations, and attending grandchildren’s events.
Left to cherish his memory are Betty Lou, four children: Debra (Larry) Kirstein, Diane (Jon) Watsbaugh, Dawn (Michael) Hiatt, David (Jolyne) Lujan; eight grandchildren: Katie (Doug) Omundson, Michael Kirstein; Tyler, Evan Watsabaugh, Anna (Brandon) Kohler; Nathan, Erin, and Lauren Hiatt; sisters: Consuelo Ledesma, Alberta Berumez, Victoria (Tony) Neuzil, and Estefana Meyne; many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much as much as well as many friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Please direct gifts to the family.

Dear Betty and Family, So Sorry to hear of Nano's death. He will be missed I am sure. He was a very neat person and I was proud to have known him and you. If I could only say the right words to ease your pain I would but I am not good at that. I always enjoyed seeing you at the class reunions. It was fun to see both of you and visit with you. Again may God ease your sorrow and peace be with all of you knowing he is in heaven with his heavenly father. Sincerely, Donna Fauser

Betty Lou, Dawn, Michael and family, There is a peace that truly does pass all understanding, that God will give you through this time of deep sadness, and I'm praying that peace for you all. I can't imagine going to sporting events at DMC and not seeing Mike. What a blessing he was to everyone he met!!! I'm honored to have known him, and hope someday I'll be the type of grandparent he was. May God be with you, in you, surrounding and holding you all. Cheryl
