Keith Earl Schultz passed away February 18, 2011. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on December 4, 1937 to Alva and Neva Caldwell Schultz. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1956 and attended William Penn College. In 1958 he moved to Boise, Idaho and was employed at Provident Federal Savings and Loan Association.

In May 1960 he married Junella Meinders in Oskaloosa, Iowa and they resided in Boise until he was inducted into the military service in November 1960.

He and Junella had three children: Mark (Barbara) Schultz, Pleasant Hill, IA; Michael (Nancy) Schultz, Omaha, NE; and Natalie (Terry) Young of Des Moines. Keith was the proud grandfather of Benjamin, Brandon, Brenna, Corinn, Gale, Jared, Justin, Kaci and Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Keith and his family lived in many locations during his military career, making their home in Taipei, Taiwan and twice in Munich, Germany as well as many spots in the United States. Keith served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star medal for action in the 25th Infantry Division. He retired from active military service after his second tour in Washington, D.C. in 1982 after 22 years of service. He achieved rank of Sergeant Major.

In his retirement, Keith was Sales Director for Holiday Inns in Des Moines and Director of Development at AIB College of Business. Upon retirement from AIB he was designated an Emeritus of the college. He was past director of the South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of the Creative Center for Young Children as well as on the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantries. He was a past president of the Executive Forum business club, and South Des Moines Kiwanis. Keith was a member of First United Methodist Church of Des Moines serving on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee and was a Red Cross volunteer. Keith and Junella enjoyed traveling and spending time at their second home in Idaho. He will lovingly be remembered as a gift of God, a devoted husband, wonderful father, and a loving grandfather.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, February, 22 at the Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th in Des Moines. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 23 at First United Methodist Church, 1001 Pleasant Street in Des Moines, with burial following at the White Oak Township Cemetery, southeast of Oskaloosa at 2:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross, 1001 Pleasant Street, Des Moines, IA 50309, in loving memory of Keith.
