Service Details

Donna Logsdon passed away peacefully, after a long illness, surrounded by her family. She was 79 years old.

Born May 5, 1931, to Jack and Grace Swarm in Des Moines, Iowa, she grew up with seven brothers and sisters, and graduated from Perry High School.

At the age of 39, she went back to school and became an LPN. She spent 22 years working at a job she was passionate about, working on the OB/GYN floor at Mercy Hospital, where she was able to take care of the new mothers, babies and surgical patients. She was much loved by her patients for the care and teaching she was able to help them with.

After her retirement, she moved back to Perry where she could be close to her sisters. She spent time volunteering for Hospice of Dallas County, the Perry Library, and Abilities, Inc. She also spent time going to craft shows and teaching tatting.

She was a wonderful mother. There was nothing that she wouldn’t, or didn’t do for her children, but her great love was for her grandchildren. She gave all of her spare time and her love to them and enjoyed having them with her as much as possible.

Surviving Donna are her four children, Pete (Glenda), Billy (Robert), Toby and Patrick; as well as eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Jimmy; and her second son, Thomas.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa
