Funeral services for Evelyn L. Gillespie of Des Moines will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday April 2, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street with committal Service following at Avon Cemetery, Avon, IA. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Sunday, April 1, 2007 at the funeral home.
Evelyn passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice on Thursday of natural causes. She lived most of her life in Des Moines and Seattle, WA. A graduate of Des Moines Lincoln in 1942, she retired from the State of Iowa in the mid 1980’s and has been an active member of the Women’s Life Insurance Society since 1994.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Perry Smith, her parents Richard and Mabel Reeser and a sister Hazel Leslie.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dale Gillespie, a son Richard Smith and his wife Marcia of Des Moines, a son, Larry Smith and his wife Kathy of Des Moines, four grandchildren, Richard Smith of Seattle, WA. , Robin Smith of Des Moines, Troy Smith of Dubuque, IA and Loren Smith of Des Moines, two great grandchildren Owen and Drew Smith.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to either Taylor House in Des Moines or First Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.
