Steven J. Smith

Steve was born July 17, 1970, in Des Moines, IA, and lost his courageous battle to brain cancer on February 14, 2011, at home in Altoona, Iowa.

Steve was a dedicated employee to the 7UP, Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in Des Moines for almost 15 years. He previously worked at Dahls Food Store and graduated from East High School. Steve was a devoted father, husband, son, and brother. He was a good Christian, he was always first in line when anyone needed assistance and had many friends. He always claimed “my children are my life.”

Steve is survived by his wife, Anna; his children, Kallie, Amanda, Allen James, and Megan; his stepchildren, Joseph, Danielle, and Cody Earnhart; his mother and stepfather, Jeannette (Dickey-Smith) and James Masear; brothers, Mike (Carrie) Smith and Greg Smith; sisters, Jamie (Brandon) Schroeder and Jodi (Anthony) Reed; niece and nephew, Danyelle and Jacob Smith; grandparents, Charles and Dorothy Dickey and Maxine M. Smith; great grandmother, Mary Briggs-Bribriesco; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Terry William Smith and grandfather, Dale E. Smith.

The family will receive visitors at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Lyon Street in Des Moines on Saturday, February 19, 2011, from 11 to 1 p.m. to be followed by the funeral at 1 p.m. Steve will be laid to rest next to his father at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Iowa for their excellent care and assistance and for all of those who have supported the family these last few months.
