Roberta "Bobbie" Cochran

Roberta Loraine (Eck) Cochran passed away February 13, 2011, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston. Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Mitchellville United Methodist Church, 200 2nd Street NW with burial following in the Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, February 18, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Avenue South.

Bobbie was born May 3, 1919, in Waterloo, Iowa – one of a set of twins - to parents Roy & Vera (Hayward) Eck. She was number five of eight children. Bobbie loved living in the country as a child and cherished the memories of playing outside and going to the river. Bobbie graduated from Jesup High School in 1937.

On October 20, 1938, Bobbie married Don Cochran in Jesup, Iowa. During their marriage, they lived in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston, TX, and Independence and Des Moines, IA, before settling in Mitchellville in 1949, where she’s lived ever since.

Bobbie wore many hats over the years, including proprietress of The Hut, and Head Cook at Mitchellville School for 21 years. But she was most proud of being a good wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bobbie was a member of the Mitchellville United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her smile, positive attitude, welcoming nature, love of adventure and readiness to help has endeared her to her community, friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her twin, Reba and siblings Ken, Keith, Eleanor, Cleone, Wendell, Donald, and her husband, Don.

Those who will miss her most include sons, Jerry of Gig Harbor, WA, Gary of Winterset, IA, Larry (Ruth) of San Jose, CA, and Michael (Christie) of Vacaville, CA, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mitchellville United Methodist Church in loving memory of Bobbie.
