Ruth Dawson

Ruth Marcelle Dawson, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park in Bettendorf, Iowa. Funeral services are set for 10am Tuesday, April 3rd at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Ruth was born October 23, 1922 in Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of Melvy and Thelma (Hutchinson) Amis. She graduated from Linn Grove High School and completed two years of business school in Sioux City, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Virgil L. Dawson, on April 3, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa, where their three children were born. Virgil and Ruth lived in Des Moines for 18 years and Ankeny for 15 years before retiring to Heber Springs, Arkansas in 1977. Ruth retired from the East Des Moines National Bank. After 27 years of making their home in Arkansas, Virgil and Ruth returned to Iowa and have resided in Princeton since June of 2005. Ruth will be dearly missed by all those who have known her.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Virgil Dawson of Princeton; daughters, Jeanne Dawson of New York City, New York and Janet McMillan of Sarasota, Florida; son, Mark (Becke) Dawson of Princeton; sister, Margie Danley of Des Moines and Bonna Thompson of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; brother, Donald Amis of Irmo, South Carolina; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Max H. Amis.
The family will greet family and friends from 4-8pm Monday, April 2nd at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, 4500 Utica Ridge Road, Bettendorf, Iowa, 52722. Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
