James A. Greenwood, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 12, 2011 unexpectedly in Wisconsin. He was born April 22, 1943 to Elmer and Ethel Greenwood in Adel, Iowa and was a long time resident of Des Moines.

Jim was the founder and owner of Greenwood’s Sewer Service. He was in the sewer and drain cleaning business for over 40 years. His passion in life was serving the needs of others whether it be family, friends, or his customers. He thrived and excelled at working hard over the years. The more complicated the challenge, the better. He loved his family dearly. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, Linda; hunting and fishing with his brother-in-law; family, and friends; and fishing and camping with many family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memories include his devoted wife of 49 years, Linda; children, Mark (Penny) Greenwood, Michelle (Louie) Branchcomb, Mindy (Dennis) West, Michael (Michele) Greenwood, and Matthew (Kim) Greenwood; grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, and Adam Greenwood, Rachelle (Forrest Jr.) Parsons, Ashley and Alex Greenwood, Nathan and Tyler West, and Jordan and Devin Greenwood; great-grandsons, Brody Parsons and Brandon Greenwood; sister, Berniece Begesse of Atchison, KS; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Jim will be missed by his family, friends, and so many loyal customers and business friends that he worked with over the years.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
