Jane Maynes
February 10, 2011
Jane Maynes, 56, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, February 10, 2011. She was born March 9, 1954, to Marty and Marilyn Davis in Des Moines.
Jane graduated from East High School and was a devoted employee of the State of Iowa. She was the hardest worker you would ever meet and worked many other jobs while working for the state. Most notably she worked every year at the Iowa State Fair. Jane deeply loved many of her co-workers who became her best friends. Some of Jane’s happiest moments were when she was gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and spending time with her friends at Somerset Winery. Jane was deeply loved by her family and friends for her kind heart and giving spirit.
Jane is survived by children, Marty (Erin) Maynes, Jeff Maynes; and Jennifer (Ben) Stodden; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Madelyn Maynes, Sidney Jane and Gabriel Stodden; brother, John Davis; aunt, Dorothy “Grizzle” Miller; cousin, Kathleen Dillman; many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and her beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

I was saddened to hear of Janies passing. We grew up in the same Union Park neighborhood and started kindergarten and Blue Birds together. Some of my most memorable times were spent at her big brick house on East 9th Street playing cards or ping pong in her basement. As we turned into teenagers and adults we somehow lost touch with one another but, I still have those fond memories as a child and Janie was a part of it. My sincere condolences and only time can heal the sorrow you feel today.

To Jane's Family,
Please accept my sympathy for the loss of Jane. I was very saddened upon
hearing the news. Jane was a beloved team member at Iowa Department of Economic
Development. She was especially helpful to me as I pursued my daily tasks. She
taught me how to use the copy machine and how to scan documents. I will certainly miss her acquiring office supplies for me...she was very resourceful
:-)
Jane was always curious about diversity issues and would frequently enquire
about the Iowa Diversity Council. She was always willing to provide input to
Council when needed.
Sadly, Jane's pleasant, courteous and enthusiastic demeanor will be missed. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. And, remember the many happy memories that you shared.

To the family of Jane Maynes...you are in my thoughts and prayers. Each day since her passing, I have thought about her. I worked with Jane at IDED for about 2 years. She was so friendly and helpful to me. She knew sooo much and wouldn't mind sharing her knowledge with me. If it wasn't for Jane, I would not EVER get a paycheck because she had to remind me every time to submit my timecard...sometimes she would have to remind me twice! But she was never put off by that, never had an "attitude". Now I would get teased by her but it was always in jest. :-)
It's sad that sometimes we take people for granted until they pass away. Then you realize what an impact they had on you. The office will NOT be the same without seeing her "buzzing" around helping folks, promoting her friends in small business, bringing in treats, and keeping us stocked up on pretzels and M&Ms. You already knew how special she was...now I do too.
May she rest in sweet peace.

Dear Jane's family,
I had the honor to work with Jane for eight years at the State. She supported our team and me with every ounce of her abilities, energy and generosity. She talked about her children and grandchildren with such joy, happiness and a proudness that you would expect from her. You already know this, but she loved all of you very very much and she spoke of all of you in great ways. She was proud of who you are what you have done. Jane was very supportive of others and gave her time, her energy, and her effort to anyone that needed it. She will be missed by us all, and our condolences to you for your loss. We have all lost a true friend. Her spirit and generosity will live on in you, and the rest of us. Jane made an impact on all of us and I am a better person for knowing her. I will miss her very much.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Jane's death. I worked with her at the Iowa Department of Economic Development. She was always upbeat and knew what needed to be accomplished. She was very dedicated to her job and co-workers; always willing to help. Jane made a difference in all our lives. She really loved the State Fair and worked tirelessly there, too. What a bright spot she was wherever she went! Thanks to her family for sharing her with us. Our hearts go out to you as you face the days ahead. She will be truly missed.

To the Family,
Jane was way too young to go home, but God must have needed someone with a Big Heart up there in Heaven. She was such a good friend, always willing to give of herself! We often talked about being Sisters, and that is how close we had become. We talked about everything, and she would always keep things in confidence. I will never forget her, and promise to keep an eye on her brother, JD, here in Hilo. She always insisted that we stay with them whenever I or the family visited Iowa, years after her brother and I divorced. She gave so much to my son, Skip, his wife Tracie, and my daughter, Brandi. She took in my son, when he first moved to Iowa, even gave him a car, and let Tracie and Skip live there also until they got their first apartment. Her selfless acts of kindness will never be forgotten. She may have been a spunky little gal, but tall in my eyes, with a Heart of Gold. God Bless you all as you go through the next few days and months. My love and hugs go out to all the family. Love, Aunt Vicki

Jane was a loving and kind woman. I don't believe she ever had a mean bone in her body. I worked with her on so many volunteer projects, and she always made them fun and they never felt overwhelming with Jane at your side. We always laughed a lot, Jane was so quick with a laugh and a smile, it was a joy to spend time with her.
She was also very spiritual. She has been taken from us far too young, but God must have needed another good hardworking soul that He could count on. Jane would be that; someone you could always count on, someone who touched your heart the moment you met her. I have so many good memories of Jane, and that will give me comfort.
Jane, I am so heartbroken to know you are not with us, but I know you will be with us in spirit; you leave a legacy of goodness and love, and I feel that I am a better person for having known you. Love, Sue

Dear Jane's family,
I went to high school with Jane but didn't get to know her until
after graduation. She was a pleasant person to be around and always
spoke when we saw each other at an event at the fairgrounds or at the
grocery store or even just shopping. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her and I will miss seeing her smile. Please accept my condolences
and keep her memory in your heart.
