Robert “Bob” Tupper Mable, 86, was born in Binghamton, NY. He died February 10, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice.
Bob’s entire career was in the life insurance industry. He retired as Vice President, Corporate Planning for Equitable of Iowa. He was a member of the United States Power Squadrons and past Commander of The Des Moines Sail and Power Squadron. Bob was the recipient of two Governor’s Volunteer Awards: 1993 services to the state related to boating safety and 2004 for 15 years as Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteer. Bob was a people person, he enjoyed the water, boating, skiing, camping, and woodworking.
Bob’s radiating love will continue to shine through his beloved family. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol; children, Jackie (Russ) Leckband, Jill (Tom) Clark, Skip (Katie) Mable, Betsy (Eric) Peterson, David (Dee) Mable and Leigh (Scott) Wiegel; grandchildren, Jesse (Sarah) Leckband, Levi (Emily) Clark, Raymond Clark, Lauren (Ben) Bewley, Jon and Kourtney Mable, Seth and Sven Peterson, Ryan, Anna and Noah Mable and Carly and Nolan Wiegel; brother, Fred (Marion) Mable and his former wife, Marge Wedge Mable. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Mable.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice or Hope Ministries.

I knew Bob years ago when we were both at ELI.
He was always a gentleman and I enjoyed being
in the same organization with him.
My sympathies to the whole family in their loss.

Dear Mable Family,

Dear Carol and Family,
Please accept our sympathy.
We enjoyed our boating times at Lake Rathbun with you and Bob along with John and Elaine Gumm. We have many fond memories of our days on the lake.
Bob's knowledge of boating and boats was amazing and so helpful to many, us included. He will be missed.

Hospice is such a wonderful group. I am sure your father was as respectfully and gently cared for as my dad. We are sorry for your loss. We know Robert's legacy will live on through his family. We will hold you all in our prayers.

I have know Bob since 2003. My husband and Bob were in the same pulmonary rehab class at Iowa Methodist Hospital. They both went to Lutheran Hospital when the class was moved there. Bob always had a smile on his face and when asked "How are you Bob? His answer was ....putting one foot in front of the other..........also glad I am on top of the grass" I was with my husband at all the classes. I joined as an official member in 2004.
After my husband past in 2006, I joined the Better Breather's Club, sponsored by the American Lung Association. Bob attended that class faithfully............Bob and Carol.
He always gave me a hug. It was a pleasure to visit with him while we each pedaled the nustep at Lifetime Fitness. He was so proud of his family. He told me one day about one of his first jobs. Setting up pins at the bowling alley. 10 cents a pin.
I enjoyed my friendship with Bob and you Carol.
His attendance at the Better Breather's Club and Pulmonary rehab/Lifetime Fitness, I feel were very helpful in keeping that one foot in front of the other.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Carol and the family.

I saw the obituary of Fred's brother in the Binghamton Press today. I am so
sorry for your loss. If I hadn't seen "MABLE", I probably would have over
looked it. I am in Newark Valley NY now for 8 years. Carl died of cancer 8 years ago and I have remarried. I hope you both are well. I would love to hear from you. sstrauss3@stny.rr.com.

I'm very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I didn't know him very well, but just listening to Charlie speak about him, I felt like I knew him. He had nothing but good things to say. My regrets to the Chapman and Mable families. My heart goes out to you all.

Our hearts go out to all of Bob's family. He will truly be missed.
In all of the time I've known Bob I don't think I ever heard him
express anything but optimism. He always had a kind word for everyone
he met and truly enjoyed interacting with everyone he met.
I know that he was always looking to help and encourage me.
Bob was just an all around great guy. I'll miss him.

Uncle Bob was a father figure to me. He taught me table manners, when I had never eaten a family meal at a table, how to swim, dive, and help out with the things on the boat, he introduced me to lemon-pepper, & he taught me that people are consistently there for me & that love is unconditional. He practically raised me. I will always love & remember him for as long as I live. No one made squiggly pancakes like Uncle Bob.
