Julia May Allen

Julia May Allen, 72, went to be with the Lord as she passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 10, 2011.

Julia was born May 9, 1938, in Des Moines to Thomas and Dorothy O’Donnell. She attended East High School and married the love of her life, Paul Allen on September 26, 1955. Julia was a loving mother, raising six children with her husband, Paul. She had various jobs, eventually retiring from the State of Iowa Insurance Deparment. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her great-grandchildren who fondly called her “Grandma Jude.”

Julia is survived by children, Paula (Bill) Beck, Paul (Nancy) Allen, Cathy Bode, Carla Allen., Terri Weatherman and Tony Allen: brothers, Danny O’Donnell, Jimmy O’Donnell, and Mike O’Donnell; sisters, Linda Deeds and Dorothy Jean Branster; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Paul on November 9, 1984; her parents, Thomas and Dorothy O’Donnell; brothers, Joe and Tommy O’Donnell; and her loving sister, Gretchen Cerrato and her husband, Nick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
