Martinus “Marty” Laursen, 93, died Friday, February 4, 2011, at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was born October 17, 1917, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Frank and Jensine Laursen.

He served under General MacArthur, in Company B, 52nd Signal Battalion in the U.S. Army during WWII. Marty married Vivian Cowell on October 25, 1947. He was an avid camper, fisherman, and upon his retirement, enjoyed golfing and square dancing.

Marty is survived by his sons, Larry M. (Nancy) Laursen of Ankeny and James A. (Regena) Laursen of Streetsboro, Ohio; grandchildren, Keith Laursen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mone Menton-Galvin Laursen of Ankeny; and brother, Harold J. Laursen of Farmington, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian L. Laursen; parents; brothers, Ray and Franklin Laursen; sister, Viola; and many wonderful friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will occur at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, February 11, 2011.
