Service Details
Marlene C. Hennessee, 70, of Norwalk died peacefully Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Mercy Hospital. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 4, 2011, at 10 am at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
Mrs. Hennessee was born in Marion, IL, and lived in Norwalk, IA, since 1977. In addition to be a caring wife, loving mother, grandmother and dear friend, Marlene was circulation manager for Meredith Publishing for 20 years.
She is preceded by her husband Ben Sr. and survived by two sons, Ben Jr. of Norwalk, and Patrick of Madison, WI, and two grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Marlene's life Thursday, February 3, 2011, from 5 to 7 pm at Fellowship Community Church in Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.

Dear Benny and Pat and families,
Your Mother and I met in 1966 as a result of my marriage to your Uncle Norvell. We had some great times together when you were all little kids in the 60's thru the 70's. She had a wonderful heart and was blessed with a great sense of humor. I send you my love and prayers,

To My Sweet Cousins Ben and Pat, and Your Families,
I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Marlene and I know you must feel such a wide chasm in your heart as I have in mine. She was such a wonderful lady, full of such jest and laughter. I will miss her dearly. I know she was greeted by such a crowd upon her arrival in Heaven. My Dad was there and all of those we love who have taken the journey before us. God Bless You and may your fond memories give you peace, and in a little time, joy.

I worked with Marlene at Meredith many years ago she was a great person to know and love.
Marlene you will be missed, our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this very difficult time.

I have a found memory of a trick we played on Marlene. Many years ago, she went out of town, and she had a friend of ours, Kathy, house sit her house. Kathy had strict rules not to let "us girls" in her house while she was away. (the reason for this is because at another house that Kathy house sat for, Marlene and us did have a party. It was a pool party, and we did clean up afterwards)
So, a bunch of us girls, went to Marlene's house with camera and props in hand. Took photos of us in various parts of her house, getting out of shower, in her bed, on her couch, drinking in kitchen, cars in driveway, etc. Kathy "accidently" left the photos of Marlene's counter for when she returned. The next day at work, Kathy confessed that she accidently left something at her house and hoped she could come back and retrieve them. Marlene pulled the photos out of her purse, and said could it be this? Marlene wasn't very happy with us, until Kathy disclosed that the photos had been staged, and assured her that no party took place. I can still hear Marlene sitting at a table at Meredith, in the cafe laughing about this.
I will miss you Marlene, and all of the laughter we shared. You are the lucky one to have Marjie as your new neighbor. Please keep the good times going with her until we all meet again.

Ben and Patrick,
I was one of the "Bahama Mamas" and want you to know how much your mother will be missed by all those that loved and had fun with her. That wide smile will be etched in my mind forever and I know that she has left a legacy of memories for you two and your families. Know that you are joined by many in remembering the funny and crazy antics Marlene enlightened us all with.
My thoughts are with your family in this very difficult time and I want you to know how much she will be missed.
