Roy D. Snyder, Jr.

Roy D. Snyder, Jr., 82, passed away January 30, 2011, at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.

Roy was born November 29, 1928, in Waukegan, IL, to Roy and Gertrude Snyder, Sr. He was the first graduate of Youth Homes of Mid-America in Johnston and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Roy served as Business Manager of Laborers’ Local Union #177, President of the Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades Council and Secretary/Treasurer of the Iowa Laborers’ District Council. Most recently, Roy held the position of President Emeritus of the Local Union #177 Retiree Council. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #659. Roy loved to golf, especially at the Grand View Golf Course.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Henrietta “Midge”; son, Roy (Kara) Snyder III; grandchildren, Roy (Miranda), Ashley (Ducky), Michaela, Michael, Qrisza, Karmylia, Karoixa, Joe and Cody; great-grandchildren, Echo, William and Daniel; sister, Wanda Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
