Joe Fellows M.D.

Joe F. Fellows, M.D., 68, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. The funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2007 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. The visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway.
Dr. Fellows was born November 17, 1938 to Dr. Joseph and Marjorie Fellows in Ames, Iowa. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and the University of Iowa Medical School. He did his orthopedic residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1964 to 1970.
Dr. Fellows began his orthopedic practice with Doctors Thornton and Blair in 1971. In 1978 he joined Des Moines Orthopedic Surgeons as a partner. He served as President of Iowa Methodist Medical Staff from 1980 to 1984. He volunteered as Team Doctor for Roosevelt High School for over 20 years. He had a passion for surgery and a love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Fellows; children, J.D. Fellows & wife Amy, Chris Fellows & wife Martha, Lisa Fellows Bartlett & husband Eric, Sean Fellows; grandchildren, Morgan, Hunter & Cal Fellows, Brenda Fellows, Riley & Tatum Bartlett; sisters, Sally A. Fellows, Jean Welling & husband Vaughn; and brother, Ben Fellows & wife Peggy.
Dr. Fellows is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Meredith Fellows.
