Mona D. McCann, 52, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from cancer. She was born December 5, 1958, in Des Moines to William and Ramona (Storck) Northway.
She enjoyed quilting, shopping, collecting coins and gemstones, as well as her occasional trip to Prairie Meadows.
Mona is survived by her loving husband of 34 ½ years, William McCann; son, William (Norma Jean) McCann, Jr.; daughter, Teresa (Brian) Sickels; grandchildren, Matthew, Levi, William III, Skye; sister, Lori (Jeff) Markle; and a host of other family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Warren-Powers Cemetery in Adelphi, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mona and I worked together at Heritage Cablevision in the Dispatch Department.
She had a great sense of humour and was a very fun person to be around.
This did not deter her from being a hard worker who did an excellent job.
She was down to earth and read people well.
She had a big, bright smile that truly seemed to light up a room.
My utmost sympathies to her loved ones.
Though it has been some time since we saw each other, I will remember
Mona always and know the world is a sadder place without her.

I was so sorry to read about Mona's passing in the Des Moines Register. I just remember her as a very fun person with a great sense of humor and an open heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family. This is a huge loss, much too soon.

My deepest sympathies to Bill and family. My fondest memories growing up were with Mona, she was like a big sister to me and I am sorry that our paths went in different directions because we missed a lot of each others lives in our adult years. Mona met Bill and they were the perfect couple, a match made in heaven and totally devoted to each other. I am fortunate to have had the honor of being a bride's maid in their wedding but my biggest honor was knowing Mona and Bill and the friendship that we shared.
Mona will be deeply missed by many and forever cherished in our hearts. Be strong Bill our beautiful angel will be watching over us until we meet again!!

I worked with Mona years ago at the cable company, and I remember her as a sweet, quiet lady and a wonderful co-worker. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
