Betty J. Bailey

Betty J. Bailey, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 5723 Franklin Avenue, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Violet Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.

The daughter of Winnie and Joe Duncan, she graduated from Bagley High School in 1939. Betty married Lloyd R. Bailey on December 15, 1939. She was a housekeeper for 20 years for the Wiese family of Perry, Iowa. Betty enjoyed many activities including, Boy Scout den mother, PTA member, and President of the DOES for a time. Betty was a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Karen K. (Ron) Christensen; grandchildren, Dwayne L. (Tina) Christensen, Kimberly K. Christensen and Cherie M. (Robb) Weeter; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie C. Weeter, Kayleigh A. Christensen, and Ashland B. Christensen; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Carolyn Lee Bailey; son, Richard L. Bailey; brothers, Jerry Duncan and Clyde Duncan; sisters, Donnie Laughery, Doris Hollis, Barbara Kinder.
