Albert “Ross” Miller, known to his family and friends as Ross, 76, passed away January 19, 2011, at the V.A. Medical Center from natural causes.

Ross was born October 10, 1934, in Iowa City, IA. He served in the U.S. Army from February 3, 1954 to January 22, 1957. Ross worked for the City of Des Moines as a cemetery supervisor and for Iowa Methodist Medical Center as a custodian. He was a member and head Deacon at Kingsway Cathedral and served as a missionary in Mexico. Ross was the sponsor of Miller Racing and loved to watch his son race. After retirement, his life revolved around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ross is survived by his son, Stephen Ross Miller; and daughters, Mary “Dorene” Elizabeth (David) Kelly and Robin Chandler; brother, John Miller; sister, Margaret Comito; grandchildren, Anne Marie Miller, Jennifer Rae Miller, Christopher Miller, Ariel Dawn Jetty, Petty Officer David Patrick Kelly II, Darci Ann Kelly, Danielle Sue Kelly, Tamera Ray Miller, Brittany Lynne Chandler and Timothy Ross Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Logan Ross Bennett, Preston Patrick Booth, Amy Lynne Chandler and Jeremaih Keith Faber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bruce Bain for the many rides to Knoxville to visit Ross, the entire staff of the Knoxville and Des Moines V.A. for their care and patience with Ross, and Bridgstone Firestone for allowing Steve time off when his father needed him.
