Mary Jane Carter

Mary Jane Carter, born May 6, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA, stepped across the horizon to begin her next journey on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
She leaves behind daughter, Suzi (Frank) Gruver of Des Moines, sons Steve (Deborah) Carter of Colorado Springs, CO and Charlie (Barbara) Carter of Newark, DE, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters Rita Goehnor and Barbara (Joseph) Holst of Spokane, WA, numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Mary Jane graduated from Graceland College (Lamoni, IA) and Southern Colorado State College (Pueblo, CO). Mary Jane retired from the US Postal Service, where she had served as a training officer. An Elder in the Community of Christ, Mary Jane served as the pastor of the Pueblo Congregation for 20 years. After living in Pueblo, CO for 50 years, Mary Jane and her husband moved to Des Moines in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 23rd, at the Central Community of Christ, 1645 Penn Ave, Des Moines, IA. The family will receive visitors and friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Outreach International, PO Box 210, Independence, MO 64051-0210, in “Memory of Mary Jane Carter”
