Virginia Taber

Virginia Taber, 89, passed away with her daughters at her side, on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, on Wednesday with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. and the memorial service at 2:00 p.m.

Virginia was born on June 26, 1921 in Iowa City, Iowa to Edward and Lily Capper. She graduated from Malcolm Price Laboratory School and attended Iowa Teachers College, both in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her career was raising her family and farming with her husband in the Dewar, Iowa area. Virginia also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and spending the winter months in Florida.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kirkpatrick of South Carolina and Judy (David) Tallant of Clive; her son, Tom Taber of Omaha; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol; son, Gary Taber; and brother, Clell Capper.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Virginia Taber Memorial Fund to provide craft projects for Alzheimer’s residents at Emeritus or to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
